Notes on the Artists, Rooftops, and Record Crates Defining our Summer.
We’ve long moved past the era of generic tourism. The modern traveler isn’t looking for a ‘vacation,’ but a vibe that feels both deeply rooted and entirely new. They are looking for the moments where a city’s pulse slows down enough for you to actually hear that shift in the air when a room finds its groove.
This summer, the soul of our properties can be found in the speakers. From the heavy timber rooftops of Minneapolis to the sun-drenched corners of Ybor City, we’re hosting the sounds that define the local fabric.
The Sky Above, The Sound Below
In the North Loop of Minneapolis, the Hewing Hotel rooftop serves as a cathedral for local sound, launching its Summer Concert Series with the resonant, roots-inflected rock of the Dan Israel Band. In Kansas City, Crossroads Hotel continues its commitment to the “one-of-one” experience. High atop Percheron, between Calvin Arsenia’s ethereal harp sets and the weekly Haus of Rhythm DJ sessions, the skyline has never sounded better.
Analog Intentions
There is a tactile honesty in vinyl that digital can’t replicate. At Detroit Foundation Hotel, our Vinyl Brunch series and Silence of the Jams sets are less about background music and more about curation, a nod to the city’s deep-seated musical heritage. Similarly, at Hotel Haya, the “Finest in Funk” all-vinyl sets have become a neighborhood staple, turning Flor Fina into a high-energy intersection of culture and rhythm for Ybor City.
The Intimate Residency
The most memorable summer moments often happen in the smallest rooms. In Fargo, the Jasper Hotel is hosting an intimate summer residency with Joanna Serenko, while Des Moines’ Surety Hotel brings a moody, sophisticated edge to the season with Blue Light Jazz. These performances function as an exchange between the artist and the architecture, where the sound feels uniquely informed by the history of the room.
Summer in the city is calling. You just have to be there to hear it.
